Strike of luck, miss of arrest

Under the dim glow of streetlights, I found myself navigating the winding roads of the city after a night of revelry with friends. Laughter and camaraderie had filled the evening as we savored the taste of four exquisite cocktails, each one leaving us with a warm sense of euphoria. The clock had struck midnight, and it was time to bid my companions farewell and make my way home.

As I approached an intersection, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed a policeman wave me down. “Stay calm,” I told myself, trying to exude an air of confidence. My mind raced, rechecking every move I made on the road, wondering if I had done something wrong. But, in my slightly inebriated state, I couldn’t pinpoint any transgression.

As the officer approached, I rolled down my window, offering a friendly smile. “Good evening, officer,” I greeted, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Evening, sir,” he replied, his tone stern but professional. “Driving license please?”

Remaining composed, I replied, “Here, sir” as i handed him my Botswana driving permit

He studied me for a moment, seemingly gauging my demeanor. “Alright, when where you last in Botswana?” I say six months ago and add that ive already submitted my permit for coversion.
“Do you mind if we take take a breathalyzer test,” he instructed, his trained eye attempting to uncover any signs of intoxication.

I complied without hesitation, keeping my nerves in check. As I sat there, waiting for the breathalyzer to work its magic, I hoped that the alcohol had cleared my system enough to avoid any repercussions.

A tense moment passed, and then the device beeped, displaying the result. Negative.

Relief washed over me like a gentle wave. “ijoro ryiza,” I said, my confidence building.

The officer nodded, his demeanor softening just a touch. “You may proceed.”

With gratitude, I thanked him, and resumed my drive, heart still racing from the adrenaline. Luck had been on my side that night, and I promised myself to be more cautious in the future. As I navigated the rest of my journey, I couldn’t help but reflect on what could have awaited me had the outcome been different.

Lesson learned, but i regret nothing, for i met a new friend tonight and i am convinced they are my good luck.
